First American loses Mercury Companies' Colorado operations to Fidelity National

Wed, Aug 7, 2008. After closing more offices in Texas, Arizona, and California, Jerry Hauptman's Mercury Companies were left with their Colorado operations and a number of serious disagreements with First American, its undewriter and partner in many things and for many years.

Somehow, Fidelity National's William P. Foley II was able to move in and buy Mercury's Colorado operations, including its interest in the Impact computer system.

Later Wednesday, August 6, 2008, First American was granted a temporary restraining order, halting the transaction.
